Rampant Taylor stuns Bully

 THE POWER

Wins for Lewis and Wade as Barney and King share the spoils

Phil Taylor hit top form in the Premier League at the Brighton Centre with an 8-3 victory over Terry Jenkins.

The world number one recorded an average of more than 106 - his second highest of the season - to maintain his unbeaten start to the event.

Jenkins' three finishes were all three-figure checkouts, but he paid dearly for missing darts to win the third leg and take an early lead.

A 116 checkout saw him win the fifth but Taylor landed a 180 and a double 14 to double his lead in the next and when Jenkins missed the bullseye Taylor stepped up to go three in front with double seven.

A superb 11-darter, featuring another 180 and a two-dart 86 finish took him further ahead and although Jenkins pulled one back with a 122 finish the damage had been done.

Barney held

Raymond van Barneveld hit back from 6-3 and 7-5 down to pick up a point against Mervyn King.

The Dutchman showed the quality that has brought him five world titles to win four of the last five legs despite not firing on all cylinders.

King produced a fine 121 checkout to take a 4-2 lead at the break and although van Barneveld pulled one back, the Briton made a 12-darter before a 142 finish gave him a three leg cushion.

But he missed darts at the double in the next two legs and van Barneveld capitalised, reducing the arrears with double top and double 18 finishes.

King kicked off the 12th with a 180 and followed it up to guarantee himself a draw, but Barney edged the next and then produced a superb 13-darter to steal an unlikely point.

Jackpot

Adrian Lewis came from 6-4 down to beat Ronnie Baxter 8-6 and pick up his second victory of the season.

Baxter made a brilliant start, taking out two successive 84 finishes and a 73 to go 3-0 up before Lewis had settled in.

But a double eight saw 'Jackpot' get off the mark and he took out a quality 86 to further reduce the deficit.

Baxter then put a three-leg cushion between the pair as Lewis's sloppy darts continued, but once again he dragged his way back into it with two maximums and a quality 95 finish in the next two games.

But Baxter edged the 10th 6-4 before Lewis levelled for the first time with double 16 and a fine 127 bullseye finish.

Two misses from Baxter on double four allowed Lewis to lead and the Lancastrian then missed three shots at tops to take a deserved share of the spoils, Lewis returning to make no mistake with a 118 checkout.

James Wade produced the comeback of the night though, taking the last seven legs to stun Simon Whitlock 8-4.

Wade took the opening leg but Whitlock was soon on level terms and hit a maximum on the way to winning the third and a 170 checkout gave him the fourth and £1000 check for the night's highest 'out'.

But that was as good as it got for the Aussie and missed darts at bullseye and double four eventually allowed the defending champion to lead for the first time.

'The Machine' then hit two maximums as he ran away from his opponent in the end to claim his first victory in the six matches.
