Former Crucible champion John Parrott fell at the first hurdle in qualifying for next month's World Championship.
The 45-year-old resumed at 5-4 behind against China's Anda Zhang but edged ahead 6-5 before the 18-year-old reeled off five straight frames to win 10-6.
Parrott, down to 59 in the provisional rankings, will miss out on the Crucible for the third year in a row.
Jimmy White held a narrow 5-4 advantage over part-time Glasgow postman Mark Boyle after their opening session.
The six-time losing finalist, who has slipped to 60 in the provisional rankings, has not appeared at the Crucible since he lost to David Gray in the first round in 2006.
Needing victory to keep alive his chances of staying in the top 64, and a guaranteed place on the main tour next season, 'The Whirlwind' started well.
A run of 50 in the opening frame and a break of 137 in the third gave him a 3-0 lead before Boyle, 90th on the provisional list, hit back to level at 3-3.
White edged into a two-frame lead with runs of 75 and 74 before Boyle took the last frame of a nervy session to trail by one heading into Wednesday evening.
If White prevails, he will play 1997 champion Ken Doherty on Thursday, with two-time Crucible semi-finalist Joe Swail awaiting the winner in the final qualifying round on Monday.
The World Championship takes place between 17 April and 3 May at The Crucible.
