Stoke man maintains solid form with German title victory

Adrian Lewis was at his best in Germany on Sunday as he claimed the second German Darts Classic Players Championship event of the weekend by beating Mark Walsh in the final.

Stoke man Lewis came from 4-3 down to beat Walsh 6-4 in Sunday's final to claim the £6,000 first prize on offer in Gladbeck.

The 25-year-old had legs of 15, 14 and 11 darts as he claimed his first PDC ProTour victory of the year and continued his solid start to the campaign.

Earlier in the day, he had avenged Saturday's defeat to Mark Dudbridge with a 6-2 win, and also overcame Mick McGowan, Maik Langendorf, Steve Hine and Robert Thornton to reach the semis.

He also found himself 4-3 down in the last four against Dolan, but included a 121 bullseye finish in winning the next three without reply in taking victory.

'Jackpot' will hope to take his form into Thursday's next leg of the Premier League, when he takes on Australian Simon Whitlock in Manchester.

Walsh had battled past Gary Anderson with a 6-3 semi-final win, having been taken to a deciding leg in the quarter-finals by Steve Brown.

Scotsman Anderson had been flying before his defeat to Walsh, as he had whitewashed Premier League stars and the top two ranked players in the event, James Wade and Mervyn King.

Saturday's champion Vincent van der Voort was a last 32 loser to fellow Dutchman Co Stompe, but Wayne Jones - the runner-up 24 hours earlier - was a first round casualty to German Bernd Roith.
