Power focused on Bolton

Phil Taylor

15-time world champ focused only on next event in Bolton

Phil Taylor will have to show all his professionalism to put aside his brilliant double nine-darter in the Premier League final and focus on defending his UK Open title in Bolton.

The Power lifted 'The FA Cup of Darts' last year, and will hope to do so again and maintain his bid to clean up all the major televised events this season.

The Stoke legend beat James Wade 10-8 to win a fifth Premier League title last week, and became the first player in darts' history to hit two nine-darters in one match.

There could be more perfect legs to come too as Taylor has a fine record at the Reebok Stadium with four nine-darters already at the Bolton venue.

The UK Open, held from June 3-6 in Bolton, sees multiple boards used at the same time and a complete free draw for each round, but whoever pulls Taylor out of the hat will have a job stopping him considering his recent form.

History bid

Taylor will defend his UK Open title next weekend and bid to create more history with a tenth televised nine-dart finish - and insists that Monday's glory will not allow him to ease off in his preparation for Bolton.

"I'm already looking at Bolton and I want to keep the UK Open title," said Taylor.

"I can hear my dad saying 'right, you've done that now, shut up and get on with the next one now'. There's no bragging, he used to say that you shouldn't talk about yourself because people will talk about you.

"I was in the gym on Tuesday and back on the practice board. Being back in the gym has helped me out fitness-wise and with my stamina, which will be important in Bolton.

"I'm having a waxwork made by Madame Tussauds but I've got my eyes on Bolton and am focused on the UK Open."

Taylor has now landed nine televised nine-darters during his career, and became the first player to land two in one game - but he believes that record could be broken one day.

"There could be three in a game one day, absolutely," added Taylor. "I'm going to try to improve and every time I do that the players who are following me improve as well."
