Stephen Hendry and Marco Fu both got the better of their Chinese opponents to reach the last eight of the Rundili Wuxi Classic.

The 12-man invitation event got underway in the Jiangsu Province of southern China today (Thursday) at the Wuxi City Sports Park Stadium.

Seven-times World Champion Hendry started impressivley against wild card Xiao Guodong with a break of 87 to take the first frame, and although he lost the next two, he recovered to lead 4-2, making a 59 in the fifth and a vital 36 clearance in the sixth.

Xiao kept fighting and won the seventh, only for Scotland's Hendry to seal victory in the next with a smooth run of 79 to win 5-3.

Hong Kong's Fu made a magnificent 134 to start his match against Liang Wenbo. A high-quality contest saw Liang get back to 2-2 with 76 and 78, then Fu regained the lead with a 74. He came from 53-0 down to win the next for 4-2, and closed out the match in frame seven with a 56.

Fu now plays defending champion Mark Allen in the quarter-finals, while Hendry takes on Shaun Murphy. The action resumes at 7.30pm Chinese time (BST +7 hours) with Ryan Day facing Yu Delu and Mark Selby up against Tian Pengfei.
